19C ANTIQUE RUBY COLORED CUT GLASS OIL LAMP, CIRCA 1850-65, which was created from a single block of ruby colored glass. Absent are glass wafers or other spacers which indicate that the lamp was cut from a single piece of glass to its present form. There is gadroon cutting on the base rim, and the lower base surface contains 16 cuts in a star pattern, in addition there are 8 cut panels which extend from the base to the lower rim of the brass collar. There is a small chip on the rim (pictured) and some tiny nicks less than 1 mm, otherwise it is in good original condition. Probable American brass collar and burner. There are museum catalogue numbers noted in pictures. I have not found other similiar examples, so this may be an unique lamp created by a glass cutter for his own use. Height 12 1/4 inches, diameter base 4 inches. Weight 1 lb 8 oz.
