Rare & Large Pair of Chinese Acid Cut Back Lamps w/ Asian Scene c. Rare & Large Pair of Chinese Acid Cut Back Lamps w/ Asian Scene, circa 1930 - 1945.

We also feature a growing selction of high-end contemporary & early American furniture. FREE PICK-UP IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA. Up for your consideration is a very rare pair of acid-cutback lamps, in the style of Steuben, but these are actually Chinese, made during the 1930s.

In the second photo, I have shown these lamps with a well-documented Steuben example. The lamps have an identical outer black amethyst glass, very similar borders, and a Chinese theme. These are lighter is weight than Steuben, because most of the outer layer of glass has been removed.

The inner layer of glass is interesting and unique. It is an opaque jade green, with gold accents that often surround the figures. The gold was added prior to adding the amethyst layer, not afterwards. This is obvious when you examine the pattern of gold and the outer layer which interrupts the spray pattern.

As you can see, the lamps are very large, when compared to the normal sized Steuben lamp in the second picture. They measure 22" tall from the base to the top of the socket, and the glass portion is 14" tall and about 5 in diameter. The lamps are in very good condition, but will need to be rewired. The glass is in excellent condition, free of chips or cracks. I detected two bubble pops, and a thin 2 line where the outer glass is slightly thicker on one lamp. It looks like a crack in the photos, but it is actually raised. Also, there is a minor scuff on the other lamp. None of these issues would be detected under normal viewing circumstances, and are clearly depicted in the last 3 photos (the bubble pop and the 2 raised line are in the same photo). The mountings appear to be made of brass, and are in excellent structural condition, but the patina shows wear (particularly to the upper portion). This quote is for the Continental U.
