This is a pair of early Victorian aqua green panel-cut glass spirit decanters dating from the early to mid the 19th century, c1840, and blown in the Richardsons glass house in Stourbridge. Andy McConnell shows an identical decanter in his wonderful book - "The Decanter - Ancient to Modern" - on page 261. The decanters are in excellent condition for their age.

This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear commensurate with some 180 years of use. The decanters are slightly tapered and are decorated with a single annulated ring to the neck and with fourteen vertical panel-cuts to the bodies. The necks are also panel cut.

The bases are plain save for polished out pontil marks and measure 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) in diameter. The decanters are 27 cm (10.8 inches) in height without the stoppers and 34.5 cm (1 foot 2 inches) in height with the stoppers inserted. The stoppers are of panel-cut spire form and we believe them to be the originals. There is some light scratching to some of the pillar panels. There is a small white inclusion in the metal of one decanter, about half way up from the base, and two in the other, and dating from manufacture.

There is some light chipping to the ends of the stopper pegs. The finial of one stopper has some light chipping as seen in the relevant image. There is a small (7 mm wide) bruise to the bottom edge of one base and a small (3 mm) surface chip to the inside of one pouring rim. One of the stoppers is a little loose in the neck o the decanter but is almost certainly the original. There are no other significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration.

Very heavy, green, lead glass, each decanter weighing in at 1,026 g. This item is in the category "Pottery & Glass\Drinkware & Barware\Decanters". The seller is "theworldismadeofglassltd" and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped to United Kingdom.
